Troubleshooting Microchip Issues

Pets with Multiple Microchips

It happens more than you'd think! Sometimes pets are microchipped more than once, by different organizations, for example.

If your pet has more than one chip, be sure to register both. Most scanners will pick up the chip that's easiest to read, but having both registered ensures your contact info can be found either way. You can check if either chip is registered using the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.

When a Microchip Can't Be Scanned or Found

In rare cases, microchips may migrate within the body or become difficult to detect with some scanners. A veterinarian can perform a full-body scan to try and locate it. If the chip still can't be found, your veterinarian may recommend placing a new one.
