Checking Your Pet's Registration Status
Last updated: June 12, 2026
Not sure if your pet’s microchip is registered or where it’s listed? These FAQs can help you confirm your registration, understand how multiple registries work, and ensure your pet’s microchip is properly linked to your contact info. You can log into your Adopterluv account here to check your current registration.
Checking If Your Pet’s Microchip Is Registered
If you adopted through a Shelterluv shelter or rescue, there’s a good chance you opted into registration at the time of adoption. You can check your registration status by logging into your account.
If you don’t see your pet listed or aren’t sure if the registration went through, you can also search for the microchip number in the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool here.
Registering with Multiple Registries
Adopterluv is a completely free pet registry. There’s no charge to register your pet, update your contact information, or add unlimited emergency contacts. Many pet owners choose to register their pet’s microchip with more than one registry for added peace of mind. Even if your microchip is already listed elsewhere, you’re always welcome to register with Adopterluv too — it simply increases the chances of a safe and speedy reunion if your pet ever gets lost.
Understanding How Microchips Work Without Registration
The microchip itself can still be scanned and read by a veterinarian or shelter if it is not registered. However, if it’s not registered, there won’t be any contact information linked to it, which means no way to notify you if your pet is found.
We strongly recommend registering your microchip to make sure your pet can always be traced back to you.
Finding Out Which Registry Your Microchip Is In
The easiest way to find your microchip’s registration status is to search your microchip number in the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool, which you can find here. This will show you if your microchip is registered and which registry it’s associated with.
