What Is the "Welcome to the Adopterluv Microchip Registry" Email?

That email is genuine: Adopterluv is the microchip registry your shelter used to register the pet you just adopted, so you never signed up for it.

It is. Here's what it means.

What happened

When your shelter or rescue processed your adoption, they registered your pet's microchip to you. That email is the confirmation. It's telling you your contact information is now attached to your pet's chip, so if your pet is ever scanned by a vet or a shelter, you're the person they find.

You didn't sign up for it because you didn't have to. It was done on your behalf, as part of the adoption.

It's free. There's no charge to register, no annual fee, and no renewal. Ever. If something asks you to pay to keep your pet's registration active, it isn't us.

The two emails people mix up

Adopters commonly receive two separate messages, and they serve different purposes.

"Congrats on adopting! Don't miss these photos of [Your Pet's Name]" is your account invitation. It has a green "Activate My Account" button, and it's the one you need to set a password and log in.

"Welcome to the Adopterluv Microchip Registry!" or "[Your Pet's Name] is now registered with Adopterluv Microchip Registry!" is your registration confirmation. It's a receipt, not a login.

If you're trying to log in to your account and this is the only email you have, you're using the wrong one.

What to do next

Nothing is required. Your pet is registered either way.

That said, two things are worth five minutes:

Check that your contact details are right. A microchip only helps if the phone number attached to it still works. Log in here → Microchips in the main menu → Edit Contact Information.

Add an emergency contact. If someone finds your pet while you're unreachable, a second name gives them somewhere to go. Same page, Edit Emergency Contact.

If the email mentions a pet or a person you don't recognize

That usually means an email address was mistyped in an adoption record somewhere, and the confirmation went to you instead of the actual adopter.

Please tell us here rather than deleting it. Two things need fixing: you shouldn't keep getting someone else's mail, and more importantly, a pet out there has the wrong contact details on its microchip. That's the one that matters if the pet ever goes missing.

You can, and we'll see it. Include your pet's name and what you need, because the subject line won't tell us much on its own.
